History of A-Cappella
The Choir was formed by The Musical Director in January 2007, after having been approached about the possibility of running an early music group during the previous few months and being advised that a number of people would be interested. Sheila had not sung this kind of music since being a member of the Swansea Bach Choir about 30 years ago and felt it would be a lovely chance to get to know more of it. Around thirty singers came along to try it out in the first couple of months and the number has been around 25 since then. The Choir meets fortnightly so that people are not tied up every weekend.
The singers are all experienced choristers with at least some sight-reading ability. There are also soloists within the choir. The Choir needs more tenors but has enough versatile singers to cover especially when a second tenor line is involved.
The repertoire is broadening as time goes by, and already the Choir has explored music from Britain, France, Italy and Germany and everyone enjoys singing in the various languages.
