Born in Merthyr Tydfil, Darya was educated at Cyfarthfa High School. In 1988 she graduated from the University of York with a B.A. (Hons) Music/ Education. Whilst at York, she studied Piano with Jo Rothwell and enjoyed additional studies in trumpet and voice. Darya furthered her musical studies in 1989 by undertaking a Post Graduate diploma at the University of Wales, Cardiff. Beginning her professional career as a Primary School teacher, Darya soon moved into the field of Special Education. She now successfully combines those roles, acting as Headteacher to a Primary School in Ebbw Vale whilst maintaining her role as Deputy Headteacher in Pen-y-Cwm Special School. Displaying a busy, challenging and varied musical lifestyle, Darya has much influence in the field of Music Education, regularly providing training to other teachers. She enjoys working with young people both in and out of school time and was appointed as the first Musical Director to Sioegerdd/Showcase Performing Arts Youth Association. She has also worked as a chorus trainer to “Katerina”, a youth project within Welsh National Opera. Accompanist to a male choir since 1997, Darya has performed in significant venues in Great Britain, Belgium, France, Italy, Germany, South Africa, the U.S.A. and Canada. Darya is also accompanist to “Cytgord”, Cor Merched Cwm Cynon, sings with Con Voce, a small S.A.T.B. group based in Merthyr Tydfil and is Director of Music and a Deacon at High Street Baptist Church, Merthyr Tydfil. |
