Dowlais Male Choir once again flew the flag for Wales in September 2007 when they represented their Country at the huge Celtic Festival ‘Breizh Touch’ involving over 3000 artistes, including Pipe Bands from Ireland, Scotland and Canada, Gaita Bands from Asturias and Galicia in Spain, and Breton Bagads and dancers, all in traditional costume.

During the four-day visit, the Choir was joined by Fflint Male Choir, and gave a concert on the Saturday to a full-house audience in the Chappelle, Notre Dame de Bon Secours, in the centre of Paris, receiving a standing ovation at the end of the concert.

On the Sunday, along with all the other artistes, the Choir took part in the Grande Parade along the the 1.3 km length of the Champs Elysée, lined ten-deep with cheering crowds, to the famous Place de la Concorde, before turning and parading all the way back up what has been described as the most beautiful avenue in the world.

As the choir marched, there were shouts of “Chanson! Chanson!”, and the Choir obliged, much to the delight of the onlookers. It was as well that the parade took place the day after the concert because there were some hoarse voices after singing for two lengths of the Champs Elysée.

The Parade, led by the ‘Gwenn Ha Du’, (the Breton flags) and the French Navy Band was televised live by TF1, the premier French television channel, to an estimated six million viewers.

The Welsh section of the Festival was organised by David Petersen, who is also the Welsh organiser of the famous Festival Interceltique, which takes place each year in Lorient, Brittany, and next year, the Year of Wales, the Dowlais Male Choir has once more been given the honour of representing their Country in this most famous of Celtic Festivals.
